Script Editor & Writer
A teller of dark comedy dramas
About me
" I love telling stories which are playful with narrative and characters, are comedic and sometimes dark. I enjoy finding the bizarre and the humour in the mundane or morbid. I am drawn to dark comedies and comedy dramas. I love a good twist, a good surprise, but most of all a tale with engaging characters".
From Liverpool, Laura is a script writer and editor based in Edinburgh. Laura is part of STV Studios' Script Reading Pool and is currently the Video Sketch Director for Edinburgh Revue. She is a Royal Television Society Scholar alumni and has written and directed films which have been screened at BFI Southbank, Glasgow Film Theatre and Tate Liverpool. Her films have been commended at the RTS Scotland Student awards 2021. She has been a Tate Collective Producer since 2015, which has led to judging writing competitions for Tate Etc Magazine and appearing on BBC Radio Merseyside. She loves collaborating with others to produce stories, evident when she won an RTS Scotland Student Award 2020 for her sound design work on a University of Edinburgh graduation film, completely out of her comfort zone, but excited to be telling a story!

Currently looking for writing collaborations and in production on her graduation film, a dark comedy drama called 'The Dead Cat Strategy'.

POETRY IN MOTION
In 2017 and 2018, I wrote and produced two films based on poetry, My Last Duchess by Robert Browning and The Lammas Hireling by Ian Duhig. I was drawn to the unnerving tone and hint of dark comedy in Browning's poem and the twists and suspense in Duhig's. I altered the stories of both poems to play with narrative and tension. The change of the ending of Duhig's poem was praised by the poet himself.

FILMING FICTION
In Summer 2021, the Filming Fiction Project began. I would read five books I was given for Christmas and work out how I would adapt them for a variety of mediums. This project stemmed from the 'Poetry in Motion' project as I was interested in exploring more the notion of adapting. The books were; The Secret History, The Master and Margarita, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Cold Comfort Farm, The Bell Jar.
THE LIBRARIAN
Throughout my time at The University of Edinburgh, I have indulged in the ability to work with others in telling stories. In my first year of university, I worked as a script supervisor and sound designer, the later of which I received an RTS Scotland Student Award for Sound Design. I have been script editor on graduations films and been constantly writing my own stories. My Third Year film, The Librarian, was commended in the scripted category at the Royal Television Society Scotland Student Awards 2021. You can find out more about The Librarian below!

TATE
Since 2015, I have been a Tate Collective Producer. In this role, I have written and made films shown in the gallery, as well as filmed events at Tate Liverpool. In early 2021, I was the assistant to the Curator for Young People at Tate Liverpool in which I helped organise an exhibition that was held around Liverpool. This led to an interview on BBC Radio Merseyside and I was a member of the judging panel for a Tate Etc Magazine writing competition.
